Brittany Dog Breed Profile
Brittany Dogs, also known as Brittany Spaniels, are a very sensitive, sweet natured breed of dog. They are easy to train and does well in a hunting environment. They love to please but the males and females have distinct personalities. The male personality of a Brittany Spaniel is more happy go lucky and eager to please. The female personality has a tendency to be tricky and use her knowledge and intelligence in order to try to gain something.
This breed of dog loves to be around family and children alike. They are a first choice breed of dog for a nuclear family because of their enjoyable temperament.
Lifespan and Weight
The average lifespan of a Brittany Dog is around 15 years. However, with the advancement of veterinary medicine, pets have been known to live up to 20 years and even longer. The average weight for this breed of dog is around 36 to 43 lbs.
The only diseases I found on the Brittany Spaniel was a tendency towards having ear infections because wind cannot get in the ears easily due to the massive amount of fur around them.
Housebreaking and Shedding
Housebreaking is out of the question for this breed of dog as they prefer the outdoors. Shedding is average, only requiring brushing around every other day to keep mats out of the fur.
Best Owner Compatibility
This breed of dog is not suitable for the apartment or condo environment, nor are they suitable for the frequent traveler. Best Owner has a big yard to play in and lots of love and attention to give. This breed loves to exercise, so be prepared!
Where to Buy
The best places to buy a Brittany Spaniel are from reputable breeders, animal shelters, and rescue organizations.
Owning a Brittany Spaniel does not come cheaply. On average, these dogs cost around $600 or more each. This of course depends on your geographic location.
Not usually aggressive unless abused or neglected.
