The Australian Terrier is a very loyal breed of dog. They have an even disposition and they love to work all the time. Being a working terrier, the Australian Terrier has great alertness, a high level of activity, and is of great soundness.

This breed of dog is great for the working environment, but must be supervised around children at all times. This breed of dog makes a great watch dog.

Lifespan and Weight

The lifespan of this breed of dog is around 15 years. However, with the advancement of veterinary medicine, pets have been known to live around 20 years and even longer. The weight for this breed is around 9 to 14 pounds.

Common Diseases

Luckily this breed of dog has relatively few health concerns. The only health concerns I could find were media patella luxation, diabetes, and hypothyroidism.

This breed is an average shedder. You must brush around every other day to avoid a complete mess of fur. Housebreaking can be difficult, as is the tendencies with terriers. However, housebreaking can be accomplished with use of puppy pads and patience on part of the owner.
